Prayers are written by AI

Personalized prayers can contain mistakes. General prayers are always there instead.

Not a replacement for care

Grace Before isn’t pastoral, medical or crisis care. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.

These terms

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and the developer of Grace Before, an individual (“Grace Before”, “we”, “us”), for the Grace Before iPhone app and this website. By downloading or using the app, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.

The app itself is licensed to you under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the standard EULA). These terms add the details that are particular to Grace Before. Our Privacy Policy explains how information is handled.

What Grace Before is, and isn’t

Grace Before pauses the apps you choose at the times you choose, and opens them again after you’ve prayed. It offers short written prayers with scripture, a history of your prayers and a simple streak.

It is a tool for a personal habit of prayer. It is not a church, a pastor or a counsellor, and it doesn’t speak for any denomination.

Grace Before is not medical, mental health or crisis care. If you might harm yourself or someone else, or you aren’t safe, call your local emergency number now. In the United States and Canada you can call or text 988.

Who can use it

You need to be old enough to enter a binding agreement where you live, or to have a parent or guardian’s permission. Grace Before isn’t directed to children under 13. You also need an iPhone that can run the app, and Apple’s Screen Time if you want prayer pauses.

Subscriptions and the free trial

Grace Before is a subscription app. Using it needs an active subscription or free trial.

  • Plans: the weekly plan renews every week, and the yearly plan renews every year. Both include everything in the app.
  • Price: the price for your country and currency is shown in the app and on the App Store before you buy. In the United States the base prices are $4.99 per week and $39.99 per year.
  • Free trial: eligible new subscribers get three days free on either plan. Apple decides who is eligible, and the app only offers a trial when Apple confirms it. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the plan you chose begins and you’re charged its price.
  • Payment: payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, or when a free trial ends.
  • Renewal: your subscription renews automatically at the price shown, for the same period, unless you turn off renewal at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
  • Cancelling: manage or cancel anytime in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions. You keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Deleting the app or its data doesn’t cancel a subscription.
  • Refunds: purchases are handled by Apple under Apple’s terms, and we can’t issue refunds ourselves. You can ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Price changes: if a price changes, Apple will tell you beforehand and, where required, ask you to agree.
  • Restoring: if you reinstall the app or change phones, Restore brings back your access with the same Apple Account. It doesn’t bring back prayers or history, which are kept only on the phone where they were written.

If your subscription ends, prayer pauses stop and your apps are released.

AI-written prayers

Personalized prayers are written by an AI model from today’s mood, topic and the words you add. They’re off until you turn them on, and you can turn them off again anytime in Settings.

  • AI can make mistakes. A prayer may be imperfect, may not fit your tradition, or may not say what you hoped. Please read it with your own judgment.
  • A prayer is not advice. Don’t rely on it for medical, legal, financial or mental health decisions.
  • Each subscription includes up to 20 personalized prayers a day. General prayers are always available and don’t count toward that.
  • The prayer service depends on other companies and on your connection. Sometimes it won’t be able to answer. A general prayer is offered instead.
  • Scripture is quoted from the World English Bible, which is in the public domain.

Prayer pauses and Screen Time

Prayer pauses work through Apple’s Screen Time, with your permission. You choose the apps and the times, and you can change them, release your apps or switch the permission off whenever you like.

  • You finish a prayer by tapping Amen. There’s no timer, and we take your word for it.
  • If you need an app urgently, temporary access opens your apps for five minutes.
  • Pauses rely on your iPhone and on Apple’s software. They can start late, fail to start or be removed by iOS, and we can’t promise they’ll always work.
  • Grace Before is not a parental control, a security tool or a way to restrict someone else’s phone. Use it only on your own iPhone, for yourself.

Your words and your data

What you write in Grace Before is yours. You give us permission to process today’s mood, topic and words only to write the prayer you asked for, as the Privacy Policy describes.

Your prayers and history are stored only on your iPhone, outside your backups. If you delete the app or its data, or change phones, they can’t be recovered, and we can’t recover them for you.

Using the app fairly

Please don’t:

  • copy, modify, reverse engineer or resell the app, except where the law allows it
  • send automated requests to the prayer service, get around its daily limit, or use it from anything other than the Grace Before app
  • use the app to write content that is unlawful, hateful or meant to harm someone
  • use the app in any way that breaks the law or Apple’s terms

We may limit or block access to the prayer service where we see misuse.

What belongs to us

The Grace Before name, icon, design, illustrations, general prayers and software belong to us or to those who license them to us. You may use them only as part of the app.

You’re welcome to keep, pray and personally share any prayer you receive. Please don’t republish them commercially.

Changes to the app

We’ll keep improving Grace Before, which means features may be added, changed or removed, including the AI services used to write prayers. If the app is ever discontinued, we’ll say so in the app or on this site, and you can cancel your subscription in iPhone Settings.

No guarantees

We make Grace Before with care, but it is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will suit a particular purpose, and we make no promise about any spiritual or personal outcome.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer law that can’t be limited by agreement.

Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, Grace Before isn’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, for lost data, or for losses caused by a pause that didn’t start or didn’t release, by prayers that were lost, or by a service that was unavailable. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Grace Before in the twelve months before the claim.

These limits don’t apply where the law doesn’t permit them.

Ending these terms

You can stop at any time by cancelling your subscription and deleting the app. We may suspend or end your access to the prayer service if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms. The sections that by their nature should continue, such as ownership and the limits above, continue after these terms end.

Apple

These terms are between you and Grace Before, not Apple. Apple isn’t responsible for the app or its content, and has no obligation to provide support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Apple’s App Store terms also apply to your use of the app.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka. If you’re a consumer, this doesn’t take away any protection you have under the mandatory laws of the country where you live.

If something has gone wrong, please write to us first at support@gracebefore.app. We’d like the chance to put it right.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the app changes. We’ll post the new version here with a new date. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app. Continuing to use Grace Before after a change means you accept the updated terms.
